Belle & White Tank Campgrounds ~ Joshua Tree National Park

Camping in a developed campground can be a pricy proposition, especially if an extended stay is planned. In fact, the campground prices in some regions of this country are nearly the same as a cheap motel room and the extra expense for a built in heater sure is appealing on an icy cold day. The problem with staying off-site in a cookie cutter motel is commuting back and forth to the park. Trying to rouse the crew out of a motel room slumber an hour before dawn just to get some sunrise photos at a majestic spot inside the National Park will likely be an impossible dream, so camping on site truly is the best way to go. Not everybody desires to rough it in the back country just to camp for free and this is where the full facility campgrounds come into play.

Developed campgrounds offer all of the basic amenities that a camper may need. Parking pads, tent pads, drinking water, pit toilets, fire rings, char-grills, picnic tables, recycling bins and a waste disposal bin are the basics that a developed campground offers. Some developed campgrounds even have showers, a dump station and fire wood. Best of all, when the developed campground is inside a National Park there will be plenty of activity options nearby, so coaxing the fellow guests out of the morning slumber to get the day started will be easier to do.

Belle and White Tank are a couple of cozy developed campgrounds inside Joshua Tree National Park that are in a prime location for those who seek a full day of outdoor adventures. These campgrounds can be found near the intersection of Pinto Basin Road and Park Road West, which are the two main touring routes in this park. The Jumbo Rocks area is nearby and this odd terrain is on full display at Belle and White Tank. The family oriented campsites are literally nestled between the gigantic round boulders, which are a source of natural entertainment, especially for children. The central location makes these campgrounds a top choice for exploring this big park, so be sure to make reservations well in advance to guarantee a good spot!

*The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
