The Goosenecks Point access road is located just past the Capitol Reef National Park west entrance sign on Highway 24. This is a smooth well maintained dirt road that only goes a short distance, so just about any kind of vehicle can get to this scenic overlook. The best times of day to view the Capitol Reef Goosenecks are early in the morning or toward sunset. This is because the glare of the afternoon light is so bright that the finer details will be difficult to see. For those who do the dispersed camping mode nearby at Highway 24 Mile Marker 73, going to Goosenecks Point first thing in the morning will be a rewarding experience! The parking lot is ample and the hiking trail to the overlook is only a few dozen yards long, so this is a fairy easy spot to access. However, the trail zig-zags through boulders along the cliff edge, so those who have a fear of heights may have a difficult time. There is some safety railing in place and fortunately so, because it is a long way down to the bottom of the canyon where the overlook is located. The Goosenecks Point Overlook provides breathtaking views of where an ancient river cut through this landscape like a snake. The Goosenecks ravine is very deep, so eons of natural history can be observed on the canyon walls. The Capitol Reef Goosenecks Viewpoint is a place where a geologist could spend hours describing the features in detail and it truly is a marvel to see. It does not take much time or effort to get to this majestic spot, so be sure to log this one on the books!

Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *This website will be going through renovations soon. Separate destination articles will be combined after the videos replace the outdated photo gallery system. As many readers know, most of the writing was done on the fly while camping, so many articles read like a rough draft. The articles will be cleaned up and edited. Many of the old photos were straight out of the camera due camping limitations and the quality will be bumped up. Another goal is to make navigating the index pages easier and combining separate articles will help. This website will continue into the future and your patience is greatly appreciated!
