Winter weather storm fronts create all sorts of chaos in the skies during the month of December. The air is chilly in the high desert and the lenticular formations are frequent this time of year. The December sunsets can be long lasting golden events, but there are a lot of gray clouds in the mix. If there are no winds, the dust will settle quickly and the night skies will be crystal clear. High altitude streams of fast moving air grazing slow moving low level cumulous clouds will nearly always result in lenticular formations in the Spring Mountains. Early in the morning is usually the best time to see lenticular clouds building. A good example of morning lenticular cloud building can be seen shortly after the start of this video. Several kinds of clouds moving in completely different directions at various altitudes are a winter weather trademark. This is amazing to see when viewed as time lapse video, especially up in the high elevations. Mt Charleston is over 2.25 miles high and this towering mountain shields low level clouds from the high altitude wind sheer. The heavy clouds hug the icy cold mountains and this action creates a time lapse effect that resembles a white snake moving around the peaks.. Another scene has a camera pointed toward the bright morning sun as a thick hazy morning fog was evaporating in the valley. Very low level clouds were forming and the eery visual effect looked like it came straight out of a creepy horror movie. Everybody seems to be interested in how some of the new mirrorless full frame cameras can film a holy grail time lapse video automatically and process the finished video inside the camera. The video produced by the camera can quickly be color graded and processed with powerful video software, so this makes the automated holy grail method worth pursuing. The last 2 scenes in this video are automated holy grail time lapse videos processed inside a mirrorless camera. The 2 holy grail scenes are well marked, so they are easy to spot. The automated holy grail time lapse video clips were color graded with FCP video software, so they are not straight out of the camera. I do thank the new viewers and subscribers of the Destination West Org YouTube channel! It is easy to notice the recent improvements in video quality and how the material is presented. Up until now I was using an old outdated MacBook Pro that could no longer handle the workload. A recent purchase of a new M3 Pro model dramatically sped up the video editing process and opened many new creative doors. Thanks for the support and please enjoy the show!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *This website will be going through renovations soon. Separate destination articles will be combined after the videos replace the outdated photo gallery system. As many readers know, most of the writing was done on the fly while camping, so many articles read like a rough draft. The articles will be cleaned up and edited. Many of the old photos were straight out of the camera due camping limitations and the quality will be bumped up. Another goal is to make navigating the index pages easier and combining separate articles will help. This website will continue into the future and your patience is greatly appreciated!
