Often a tourist becomes aware of one of these attractions when passing by on the way to somewhere else. All it takes is a passenger noticing row after row of shiny jetliners in the distance to stir up interest. Unfortunately the small talk and dreams of exploring the old boneyard all too often just end up fading away in the rear view mirror. The dreams of experiencing a vast sea of antique airliners baking in the hot desert sun is something that appeals to the child within us all. It is like an opportunity to be the king of the junkyard does with all sorts of neat perks. Many of the airplane graveyards in the desert southwest are closed to the general public, but there actually are a few that offer touring opportunities. Tours of this nature are usually done by reservation only, so it is best to refer to the airfield website for current information. Wavers may have to be signed in order to satisfy insurance stipulations in some cases and there will likely be a fee. These disclaimers certainly are minor inconveniences for anybody that has the urge to experiences the place where old airplanes serenely rest in peace. One such airplane graveyard that offers public tours is located at the Mojave Air & Space Port in southern California. This desert airfield boasts a vast sea of retired airliners to explore, which is like a dream come true for fans of aeronautical history. Death Valley and several other Mojave Desert attractions are nearby, so a point to point tour can be easily planned. Of course those who do not wish to pay the fee can still take a look at the airplane graveyard from the other side of the fence. This vantage point is a very long distance away from the aircraft and binoculars will be needed. Either way, the airplane graveyard at the Mojave Air & Space Port is yet another interesting destination to chalk up when planning a tour of this region!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
