Flickr album link: Beaver Campground The Beaver Campground is located in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest just a short drive north of the Columbia River. The Wind River flows right next door and the Carson National Fish Hatchery is a few miles upstream, so it goes without saying that this is a cozy spot for those who dream of doing some fly fishing. This region definitely offers a deep woods experience and if enough moisture is present, the rain forest moss will enhance the dramatic views. Mount St Helens and Mt Adams are both in the local area, so there are plenty of foot trails to follow. Kayaking and canoeing the Wind River is permitted, while the number one wind surfing destination in the nation is just a few miles away at the mighty Columbia River. The deep woods setting certainly is entertaining in its own way and this wilderness area is a great place to do some birding. Fly fishermen will be happy to know that the Wind River is stocked with steelhead trout and chinook salmon, so a campfire meal can truly be a fine dining experience. There are 24 campsites and a large group area in the Beaver Campground, so there is plenty of room for family fun in the sun. This campground is equipped with basic facilities, chargrills and picnic tables, while drinking water is available onsite. There is also a children's playground, activity area and a horseshoe pit, so boredom is a word seldom heard. No matter whether hiking to the big volcanos or just lazing the day away in a hammock is in the plans, the Beaver Campground is a good spot to chalk up when touring southern Washington!

Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *This website will be going through renovations soon. Separate destination articles will be combined after the videos replace the outdated photo gallery system. As many readers know, most of the writing was done on the fly while camping, so many articles read like a rough draft. The articles will be cleaned up and edited. Many of the old photos were straight out of the camera due camping limitations and the quality will be bumped up. Another goal is to make navigating the index pages easier and combining separate articles will help. This website will continue into the future and your patience is greatly appreciated!
