As mentioned in a previous article, the town of Borrego Springs, California is where the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Visitor Center is located, but what was not announced is what can be expected to be encountered in this desolate area. With no foreknowledge, a visitor will simply be awestruck when the first gigantic metal monster is spotted and many more can be noticed in the distance. Before long, the park visitor center mission becomes sidetracked to the point of being completely forgotten and the quest for rusty metal sculptures begins! There are over 130 lifelike giant metal sculptures to experience in the Borrego Springs desert landscape and it will take several hours to find them all. Some of the sculptures were recently moved to new locations, so it is best to seek an updated map before going on the hunt. Finding the sculptures with no guidance is fun to do too, but this method does require some intuitive skills. Basically, by cruising slowly around the outskirts of the town, one sculpture after another will be encountered and each will require some extra time to view. There are solitary metal sculptures on display nearly everywhere in this desert expanse and each is unique in its own way. Many are arranged in groups to create dramatic scenes, which includes rusty metal wine grape farmers, dinosaurs, giant insects locked in battle, ancient herd animals and much more. Mythical dragons, sabertooth tigers and even a rock climbing Jeep are also included in the outdoor gallery venue. These amazing works of welded metal art were created by Ricardo Breceda, who is also famous for his Perris Jurrassic Park museum, which recently was liquidated. The original owner of Galleta Meadows in the outskirts of town dreamed of decorating his vast property with Ricardo Breceda sculptures and this outdoor art gallery is now famous worldwide. The Borrego Springs Metal Sculptures have to be experienced in person to be believed, so be sure to pack a good camera because sharing the images back home will naturally captivate all who take a look!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
