Brink of Upper Falls ~ Yellowstone National Park

When visiting Yellowstone National Park, the Brink Of Upper Falls is a great place to cool off when the mid summer afternoon temperatures reach a peak. The Brink Of Upper Falls is located north of Yellowstone Lake in the Grand Canyon Of Yellowstone. Much like the Grand Canyon in Arizona, a river runs through and erosive forces have carved the mountainous landscape over eons of time. The walls of the Grand Canyon Of Yellowstone canyon are nearly vertical in some places and the bedrock riverbed descent is steep. These are the perfect conditions for majestic cascades and waterfalls, so the Grand Canyon Of Yellowstone is a good place to enjoy a natural water show!

The Brink of Upper Falls Trail is only a couple hundred yards long, so getting to the waterfall overlook only takes a few minutes. The problem is that the hiking trail is basically a staircase cut into the canyon wall, so those who have mobility challenges will likely need assistance. The walk down the staircase to the waterfall is easy, but it is a strenuous climb back up, so be sure to stay hydrated in order to prevent dizzy spells from occurring in this high elevation.

Once a visitor gets to the waterfall overlook, it is like a sigh of relief in more ways than one. The mist rising from the roaring waterfall envelopes viewers with its cool refreshing effect. There are plenty of shade trees, so the Brink Of Upper Falls truly is like a gift of free outdoor air conditioning from the Mother Earth Spirit herself!

What is unique about the Brink Of Upper Falls overlook is this viewpoint location sitsmwhere the Yellowstone River falls straight down over a rocky cliff. Visitors can literally look over the rail at a waterfall pouring straight down into a blue gathering pool. Viewing the flow and listening to the water cascade is as relaxing as it gets. There definitely is plenty of peace of mind to go around in this place.

It can take several days to experience all of the unique natural roadside attractions in Yellowstone National Park that and it can literally take months to cover all of the hidden gems along the hiking trails in the back country. Yellowstone is a beautiful untamed wilderness and it can be dangerous as well, so it is best to adhere to the regulations when paying a visit.

The map in the park brochure is a visitor’s best friend, since smart phone mapping services are not reliable in this region. When driving on Grand Loop Road, places like the Brink Of Upper Falls are easy to find because they are well marked. Because this roadside attraction is not a famous geyser field, parking spaces are usually available. The Brink Of Upper Falls is a good place to find some relief from the heat in the cool mist and the thunderous roar of this waterfall is natural entertainment at its best!
