00:14 Lakeshore Road Dust Storm 06:23 Gypsum Point 08:27 Crawdad Cove 12:36 Boxcar Cove 23:41 Callville Bay 27:43 Fin Callville Bay is a popular year round boating destination that also appeals to winter snowbird campers. This Lake Mead National Recreation Area attraction sports a full scale marina, boat launch, picnic areas and a posh developed campground complete with tall desert palm trees. The views are as picturesque as can be in this cozy pocket where the mountains meet the water. With all this enticement it is easy to see why this spot is so popular and being so close to Las Vegas adds even more to the charm. For those who seek comfort in the great outdoors, the Callville Bay Campground has full facilities and a ranger station is located on site. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area covers a vast amount of land around this big body of water and most of the camping options are primitive, so a developed campground truly is a rarity in this place. It is best to make campsite reservations well in advance, especially during the busy cool weather seasons when the outdoor temperatures are mild. During the extremely hot Mojave Desert summer, making campsite reservations definitely is not necessary, because most people do not like to feel like they are baking in an oven all day long. On the plus side, Callville Bay is an aquatic sports destination that offers a chance to cool off in the deep water during the long hot summer. There are also a few shade trees that are perfect for taking an afternoon siesta. Best of all, the Callville Bay Marina is the place to go for watercraft and houseboat rentals. Spending an extended vacation floating around Lake Mead on a houseboat will present endless adventures and plenty of opportunities to catch a trophy striped bass for dinner. Simply put, renting a house boat at Lake Mead is like a dream come true for anybody that wishes to make the great escape happen. With all this going on it is easy to see why Callville Bay is such a popular getaway destination and making reservations well ahead of time is the best way to guarantee that the dream will become real!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
