Arizona State Road 95 runs along the east bank of the Colorado River from Parker north to Lake Havasu City and old Route 66. This section of road is perfect for a picturesque scenic drive and the sunsets in this area are spectacular to see. There are plenty of recreation areas along the river, so this old road also offers some good day trip options. Camping by the river is permitted in the State Parks or BLM territories and there are several classic Route 66 era lodges, so an extended stay can be planned. Boating, floating and fishing in the river are the main pastimes and there are plenty of rental shops along this highway. All this adds up to sweet package deal, as far as riverside destinations are concerned! The southern Arizona section of the Colorado River certainly is picturesque and just about any place that the car stops along SR 95 there will be some great views to take in. Many car clubs and motorbike rally groups tour the entire riverside loop from Laughlin to Parker and back on both sides of the river, which can be done in one day. This long river run has been popular since the old days of Route 66, so if you are into nostalgia, touring the big loop is the way to go. Lake Havasu City is a prime destination of its own and this community caters to the boating crowd. Lake Havasu City is the best place to look for rentals, repairs and supplies when doing an outdoor excursion. There is some nightlife to be found along the waterfront too. The BlueWater tribal casino resort is the marquis riverfront destination, which also offers great views. Between Parker and Lake Havasu there are about a dozen small parks and picnic areas along the river. Buckskin Mountain State Park and River Island State Park are two of the best to look for and each of these riverside destinations offers a unique venue. There are a few city park picnic areas and boat launch ramps to be found along the way too. The camping options range from full scale RV resorts to boondocking in the BLM territories, so any budget can be accommodated. Cruising the section of SR 95 between Parker and Lake Havasu is the best way to gather pick a spot that peaks the interest in this picturesque section of the Colorado River. This area can be crowded during the winter season, but when spring arrives up north the big crowds do thin out. Summers along this stretch of river are as peaceful as can be, if you can withstand the extreme heat. Checking out the southern Arizona Colorado River vacationland scene is simply a must to do while the temperatures are still relatively cool!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
