County Road 131 can be found on Highway 191 just south of the Hole N" The Rock tourist attraction. CR 131 is a long dirt road that runs west into the heart of the Canyon Rims Recreation Area and it eventually intersects with Hatch Point Road a few miles away from the Kane Creek Anticline. There are several landmarks to discover along the way, which include Looking Glass Rock, a historic ranch and a few interesting red rock cave dwellings from the old west. This high plateau red rock landscape overlooks the Canyonlands to the west, so there are all sorts of surprises to discover. The towering mountains to the east provide a majestic backdrop, which is like the icing on the cake when touring this long red dirt road! On the downside, this red dirt road will turn into deep impassible mud when it rains, so it pays to check the forecast before starting a CR 131 tour of the Canyon Rims Recreation Area. CR 131 has some rough sections too, so a high ground clearance vehicle is the best choice for the trip. The road signage is minimal in this region and there are several side roads along the way to get lost on, so a detailed map or GPS will come in handy. The travel mileage also adds up quickly in Canyon Rims, so be sure to top off the tank prior to arrival. The photo album shows CR 131 from Hatch Point Road to the intersection of Highway 191. Looking Glass Rock is definitely the highlight of the trip and by going east the best will be saved for last. All along this road are views that a landscape artist dreams of, so be sure to take some extra time when passing through!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
