The CJ Strike Reservoir Lake covers a long section of the Snake River near Bruneau and Grand View, Idaho. The Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area covers a large portion of this lake and the surrounding wetland areas, so this definitely is a superb birding destination. The Cove Recreation Site is the only campground in this vast bird sanctuary and it certainly is a hub for fun in the sun during the summer season. Birding actually is a secondary activity around the campground, since most overnight visitors are primarily here for the world class fishing and aquatic sports. Personal watercraft rentals can be found nearby, so practically anybody can join in on the fun. Boating really is the best way to experience this conservation area, because the shoreline is so lengthy that it would take several weeks to explore on foot.

The Cove Recreation Area is both a day use picnic site and a campground. Dispersed camping is allowed, which is like a sigh of relief for those who are maintaining a tight budget. The recreation site is equipped with basic facilities, picnic shelters, picnic tables and chargrill fire pits. A boat ramp, small fishing docks and drinking water are also available. An RV dump station is even located onsite, which is a nice convenience. The views of the high desert mesa bluffs surrounding this lake extend to the horizon, so this conservation area is as picturesque as can be. The Bruneau Sand Dunes State Park is literally right next door, so plenty of fun filled outdoor adventures await for the entire family. Of course the birds of prey viewing simply can't be beat, so be sure to chalk this cozy lakeside camping destination high on the list!
