After being overwhelmed by the blazing colors of the rock formations along the Burr Trail in the majestic Canyons region of Grand Staircase-Escalante, finding a cozy lush green spot to comfortably reflect upon the day will certainly be well within order. The Deer Creek Campground offers such an opportunity and this is a nice little nook for setting up a basecamp for adventures in this amazing landscape! There are only seven developed campsites in the Deer Creek Campground and no large RVs or trailers are allowed due to size restrictions. Deer Creek is basically a car & tent campground that intended for overnighters when touring the Burr Trail. Water is not available even though the creek runs close by, so be sure to pack plenty because this mile high desert environment has a way of leaving tourists totally parched. Most campers usually only spend a day or two at this spot, because so many other interesting adventures await in other parts of this vast wilderness area, so the turnover rate will nearly always make a few spots available early in the afternoon. The shade trees and the sound of the gentle wind blowing through the cattail reeds at Deer Creek certainly does create a soothing environment for some rest and relaxation. There are a few hiking trailheads nearby, so a full day of adventure can easily be planned. The majestic scenery of the Burr Trail and Long Canyon are the main attractions and many more adventures lie in store way east beyond the infamous Burr Trail Switchbacks, where only the 4x4 vehicles go. This picturesque end of Grand Staircase-Escalante certainly is a world of adventure, so be sure to keep the Deer Creek Campground in mind when planning the trip!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
