Not all roadside campgrounds are created equal and some are better than others, so it pays to do some research ahead of time. The most basic national forest roadside campgrounds are nothing more than a rest stop for those who are suffering from driving fatigue. The roadside forest campgrounds near urban areas tend to be local weekend party hot spots that may present all sorts of problems, especially if excessive alcohol consumption is involved. There are also roadside campgrounds located along major tourism corridors near national parks, which are designed to handle peak season overflow and they can be crowded on weekends. Finally, there are a few lesser known national forest roadside camping nooks that truly are like a dream come true, which can greatly enhance the vacation experience! The Dog Lake Campground is one such desirable national forest roadside camping destination that can be found along the lengthy Highway 12 tourism corridor between Yakima, Washington and Mt Rainier National Park. This Wenatchee National Forest camping spot is far enough away from the city for some peace and quiet, while endless outdoor adventures await nearby. The majestic Clear Creek Falls Overlook is literally right across the street and the lakeside views are breathtaking. The Dog Lake Campground offers basic facilities, eight campsites and there are vehicle length restrictions. The mountain views across the lake are spectacular and there are a few Wenatchee National Forest hiking trails nearby. Dog Lake is stocked with rainbow trout during the summer season, so putting some quality fresh food on the table can easily be done. What this all adds up to is Dog Lake is much more than just a good spot for road weary car & tent campers traveling back and forth from Mt Rainier. In fact, after setting eyes on this unique little roadside camping spot, spending an extra day will likely become part of the travel plan!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
