Flickr album link: Freeman Campground The national forest road to the Freeman Reservoir Recreation Area is located on Highway 13 a few miles north of Craig, Colorado. A high ground clearance vehicle is best for this lengthy dirt road, while a 4x4 will present an opportunity to explore more side trails in this vast wilderness area. The northwestern end of this state does not attract many mainstream tourists, so is is easy to find some peace and quiet in the deep forests way up in these mountains. The Freeman Campground is located in a picturesque aspen forest in the Black Mountain region and a fairly large reservoir is located right next door. This rustic campground offers 12 pads that are large enough for moderate size RV campers or trailers on a first come-first serve basis. Basic sanitation facilities, chargrill pits and drinking water are available, so all that a visitor needs to do is stock up heavy well ahead of time. The high elevations in this area definitely touch the clouds, so packing some rain gear will be necessary to do, especially during the mid summer monsoon season. On the bright side, the moisture guarantees plenty of wildflowers blooms and the grassy meadows attract all sorts of wildlife. For this reason, be sure to pack a camera for the ride and keep a fishing pole handy to put fresh trout on the campfire menu!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
