Some campgrounds are better than others, but when dead tired after a long day, just about any campground will do. When exploring a new territory for the first time, blind luck comes into play all too often when seeking a cozy spot to bed down, which can lead to disappointment when reality finally settles in. Browsing for campgrounds on the web while on the go can be the impossible dream, especially in remote areas where smoke signals are the only reliable method of communication. For this reason, it is best to do some research ahead of time and plot the locations of choice campgrounds on a map in the area where one plans to go. This way when the sun starts to set, all that needs to be done is click on a preset map marker and follow the dotted line to a suitable campsite with confidence.

Those who plan an entire vacation around a solitary campsite location do have to be a bit more picky when selecting a suitable place to setup a basecamp. The chief concerns in this case have to do with entertainment value and comfort. Opting for a campsite location that offers a wide range of outdoor activities for the entire family is the goal. Finding a secure well maintained campground that offers a reservation system is important in this case, since everything but the kitchen sink will likely be packed for the excursion. The premium campgrounds that have official hosts or ranger stations onsite definitely offer some peace of mind and the late night hours are guaranteed to be more quiet than the free for all atmosphere at a dispersed camping area. All this comes with a price and the most expensive public lands campgrounds tend to be the least problematic as far as civilities are concerned.

The Fremont Lake Campground is a good example of a premium campground that is secure and offers plenty of options for fun in the sun. In fact, this campground is so nice that one could refer to it as the Ritz Carlton of the Bridger National Forest. This cozy campground is located on the shore of Fremont Lake, so catching fish for dinner is as easy as rolling out of the hammock. The marina is just a short distance down the road and personal watercraft rentals can be found here. The lake sits at the base of the Wind River Mountains of central Wyoming, so seeking adventure on the trails is an option. The wildlife is everywhere in these parts, so birding and big game viewing should be placed high on the activity list. The Fremont Lake Campground offers all the amenities one would expect to find in a premium campground and it is spacious with 54 individual campsites. This is a well known place to escape from the modern world, so making reservations well in advance is recommended. For those who seek a spot to park it and not start the engine for the entire vacation, the Fremont Lake Campground is as good as it gets!

*The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
