Heavens Gate Vista is located next to the Seven Devils Campground in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and this is one scenic overlook that you simply do not want to miss! Previous articles describe the Seven Devils Road and the campground, which can be accessed with a passenger car that has higher than average ground clearance. The dirt road to Heavens Gate is fairly smooth too, but it is very narrow where it runs along the mountain edge. Dealing with oncoming traffic on this one lane dirt road may be necessary, so be prepared for some awkward situations. Hiking or biking definitely is the better way to go.

Heavens Gate Vista faces away from the Seven Devils Mountains and the panoramic views stretch far into the horizon. In fact, parts of four states can be viewed from this high vantage point and there is nothing but desolate mountain wilderness as far as the eyes can see. The early morning haze creates a mysterious look, while viewing a sunset from this high perch will be well worth writing home about. Wildfire smoke can ruin the party, so it is best to check the air quality conditions when making plans. Wildlife and wildflowers can be viewed all along the way, so be sure to plan on spending some extra time!
