Mid summer is sunflower season out west and the best way to view this spectacle is to travel the old two lane highways through farm country. By not opting for the high speed Interstate Highways, more opportunities to stop and smell the roses will arise. Often the two lane roads will provide a more direct route and the slower pace will be easier on a fully loaded vehicle. Farm country is where vast fields of sunflowers await to be discovered and one of the best spots to keep in mind can be found just south of Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Highway 44 is the road to look for and a mid summer trek down this old highway may result in a one of a kind opportunity to view blooming sunflower fields that stretch out to the horizon!

Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *This website will be going through renovations soon. Separate destination articles will be combined after the videos replace the outdated photo gallery system. As many readers know, most of the writing was done on the fly while camping, so many articles read like a rough draft. The articles will be cleaned up and edited. Many of the old photos were straight out of the camera due camping limitations and the quality will be bumped up. Another goal is to make navigating the index pages easier and combining separate articles will help. This website will continue into the future and your patience is greatly appreciated!
