During the summer season a local weekend car show can be found in just about any town, anywhere. As a rule of thumb, the bigger the city, the more local car shows there will be. Cities that have a long history of custom car heritage, like Los Angeles, will definitely have local car show events that are well worth checking out, because there will be plenty of eye candy to see. Dry arid environments have the advantage, so on any given weekend there will be a local car show to discover in the western sun belt cities. Las Vegas definitely fits into this category and the disposable money flows like water, so a local car show in this unique civic arena is guaranteed to be a feast for the eyes! In the old days back in the mid 1900s, the local car shows were usually held in an empty dirt lot that was a gathering spot for street racing hot rodders. In modern times, property liability litigations have caused these old fashioned meets to either go underground or be forced to wade through plenty of red tape just to hold a car show in a shopping plaza parking lot after peak business hours. Basically what this adds up to is if a parking lot owner is not a fan of custom car culture, the police will be called to break up the action. Fortunately there are business owners that do approve of such gatherings and they will readily host a car show event. The sanctioned weekend meets often are advertised on a local level, which in turn draws more custom cars, bigger crowds and more business exposure, so it is a winning combination. An outsider of the custom car culture will likely rarely see an advertisement for a local car show in the newspaper or or on television, simply because this drives up the costs. Advertisements for both the underground hot rodder meets or the officially sanctioned local car shows actually are most often found at the local car club websites. By typing the words, lowrider, hot rod, custom pickup truck or classic car shows along with the name of the city in a search engine, a list of local car clubs with scheduled events will appear. Finding a weekend local car show is as easy as this in the modern age and it sure beats burning a ton of gas cruising around town looking for where such an event is going on. The photo album attached to this article is a good example of what kind of local car shows can be found in Las Vegas on any given weekend. In Sin City, the location may be a grocery store parking lot after dark on a Friday night or an empty lot at an adult strip club on a Saturday afternoon. Empty space is a real commodity in Las Vegas on weekends and the local business owners do like the exposure the sanctioned events during off-peak hours. Unsanctioned fly by night events happen too, so do not be surprised when a few dozen radical low-riders are discovered chilling at a fast food parking lot during the late night drive-thru hours. It all goes on, so be sure to keep the local car shows in mind during the long hot summer season!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
