Flickr album link: McCully Forks Campground The McCully Forks Campground is located a few miles west of Sumpter, Oregon on the Elkhorn Drive Scenic Byway. Sumpter Valley is right next door and this happens to be one of the best migration season birding areas in the entire west. Previous articles feature the local attractions, like the Sumpter Valley Railroad & Dredge, Phillips Lake and several other campgrounds. Of course a few past articles also feature the birding ventures in the wildlife management area and it is nice to know that is is easy to capture photos worth framing in this unique place. This all makes the McCully Forks Campground a nice choice for setting up a basecamp and the deep woods setting guarantees peace of mind. The McCully Fork Stream is right next door to the campground, which is a pretty sight to see. McCully Fork Road heads into the deep pine forest up in the mountains and it is worth taking a little tour, but there is usually heavy logging activity during the autumn season. The campground only has eight tent or trailer campsites, yet most sit empty year round. The facilities include picnic tables, basic facilities and stone fire rings. Firewood is sometimes provided, but there is no drinking water onsite. All in all, the McCully Forks Campground is a cozy little roadside nook that is often overlooked by mainstream tourists, so be sure to keep this option in mind!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
