There are two main touring routes that meander through Joshua Tree National Park and both can take several days to thoroughly explore. Pinto Basin Road is a long paved road that goes through the central and southern portions of this big park, which is a vast low desert wilderness area that is surrounded by mountain peaks. For those who seek the gigantic round boulders and Joshua Tree forests that this National Park is famous for, driving on Park Road through the northern section will satisfy the quest. There is literally one captivating natural roadside attraction after another along this paved road, so if time is limited, touring Park Road will offer the most bang for the buck! There is literally one great day use area after another to be found along Park Road, so there will be no such thing as boredom when doing the tour. Starting this scenic drive at the Oasis Entrance and going west to the other exit gate will reward visitors with a great sunset at the Keys View Overlook toward the end of the day. In between the two end points are dozens of points of interest that include, Jumbo Rocks, Skull Rock, Hall Of Horrors and the Oyster Bed. There are also a few side road options that include 4x4 trails to the old mines in the hills and the old historic Boy Scout Trail. Best of all, the Joshua Tree Forest is thickest along Park Road and some of the tallest old growth branching trees can be seen on the side of the road. Joshua Trees are interesting to view during inclement weather, so it is best to not let a rainy forecast delay the trip. In fact, the endless mountain views that stretch out forever at the Keys View Overlook are far more dramatic when storm clouds are drifting by, which is a common occurrence during the winter season. Rain or shine, Park Road is the best choice for experiencing as much as possible when time is limited. For this reason, touring Park Road west through Joshua Tree National Park is simply a must to do!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
