Pelican Lake is located on Highway 88 a few miles south of Vernal, Utah, so stocking up prior to arrival is easy to do. Checking the supplies definitely is important for a Pelican Lake venture, because this small lake is well known as a bluegill and bass fishing hot spot and once a line is cast in the water, an angler will likely not want to leave anytime soon! Pelican Lake is managed as a BLM Recreation Area and primitive lakeside camping is allowed in the designated area. Because the Green River is right next door, the seasonal birding can be also good at this roadside destination. The mainstream tourists tend to overlook the Pelican Lake Recreation Area simply because there are a few big parks nearby that overshadow all else and for this reason, this lesser known fishing hole is a genuine gem hidden in plain sight!

Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *This website will be going through renovations soon. Separate destination articles will be combined after the videos replace the outdated photo gallery system. As many readers know, most of the writing was done on the fly while camping, so many articles read like a rough draft. The articles will be cleaned up and edited. Many of the old photos were straight out of the camera due camping limitations and the quality will be bumped up. Another goal is to make navigating the index pages easier and combining separate articles will help. This website will continue into the future and your patience is greatly appreciated!
