Randsburg is a living ghost town that is located off of Highway 395 a few dozen miles northwest of Barstow. The side road to Randsburg is paved and any kind of vehicle can do the trip. This historic California mining camp is nestled in a picturesque Mojave Desert mountain setting, so be sure to bring a good camera along for the ride. Because of the extreme heat of summer in this region, it is best to tour Randsburg during the cool weather seasons. The big festivals and events take place during spring and autumn, which is good too keep in mind if you want to experience just how lively an old west desert ghost town can be! Just like with many other living ghost towns, Randsburg is a haven for alternative arts, antique hunting and old saloon haunting. Weekend warriors cherish these kinds of destinations, because there is so much fun stuff to experience while stretching the legs after the long ride. Weekends can be busy in Randsburg, but for those who rise early some peace and quiet can be found. The early morning light is also nice for photographing a ghost town, because the old west buildings and window displays do all the talking. Randsburg was established as a mining camp back in the late 1800s and there is plenty of old west memorabilia to be seen on the grounds. There are several historical markers in this area that provide plenty of insight, so be sure to give them a look. Food and refreshments along with endless hours of curios shopping await along the main street area and I am sure that some paranormal tourism takes place here too. The old mineshaft head frames can be seen all over the hills, which indicates how busy this town used to be. The only limiting factor is this old ghost town is located way out in the middle of nowhere, but this actually is the main reason why Randsburg is the perfect weekend warrior destination!
