Flickr album link: Rombo Campground The Rombo Campground is located a few miles north of Painted Rocks state park on Highway 473. The West Fork Bitterroot River parallels this highway and large reservoir is featured in the neighboring Montana state park, so a camper will find many good fishing opportunities in this area. River rafting is also a summertime activity option and there are many hiking trails in this remote mountain wilderness. The best part is since the state park camping facilities attract the big crowds, the lesser known camping spots in the Bitterroot National Forest are often overlooked by mainstream tourists. This presents an opportunity to find some peace and quiet, even during a busy holiday weekend. The Rombo Campground features 14 cozy campsites nestled in the shade of tall pines. Basic facilities, picnic tables, chargrill pits and drinking water are available. It is a very lengthy trip back to civilization, so stocking up heavy prior to arrival is necessary. This section of the Bitterroot National Forest is famous for being a premium large wild game viewing area, so it goes without saying that bear safe food storage will be necessary. For those who wish to escape from the big crowds to find a cozy place for rest and relaxation, be sure to chalk the Rombo Campground high on the list!

Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *This website will be going through renovations soon. Separate destination articles will be combined after the videos replace the outdated photo gallery system. As many readers know, most of the writing was done on the fly while camping, so many articles read like a rough draft. The articles will be cleaned up and edited. Many of the old photos were straight out of the camera due camping limitations and the quality will be bumped up. Another goal is to make navigating the index pages easier and combining separate articles will help. This website will continue into the future and your patience is greatly appreciated!
