As mentioned in a previous article, Seven Devils Road is not as intimidating as it sounds. This smooth National Forest dirt road winds its way up to the top of a mountain where the Hells Canyon Wilderness and panoramic views of the Seven Devils Mountains await. The Seven Devils Campground is also located where the smooth dirt road ends, which is one of the most unique high elevation places to do some rustic style camping in the entire west! The mountain top Seven Devils Campground is situated on rocky crags in a deep conifer forest and there are some cozy nooks for setting up camp. This little campground is well suited for hikers and vehicle tent campers, while horse trailer haulers will find more room nearby at the Windy Saddle Horse Camp. The rustic nature of the Seven Devils Campground is captivating and each campsite nook has a very rugged look that has a way of spelling out adventure in its purest form. Jagged boulders and fallen trees are everywhere, so finding some level ground for pitching anything other than a small tent can be a challenge. Only basic facilities are available, so it is easy to see that the Seven Devils Campground is all about roughing it in the wild, which adds to the Hells Canyon Wilderness experience. The dirt roads that go deeper into the Seven Devils Mountains from the campground are much rougher than the smooth access road, so a high ground clearance 4x4 will be the best choice for continuing onward. The exception is the short dirt road to Heavens Gate Vista, which is practically right next door. Because the Hells Canyon Wilderness is a hiking and mountain biking paradise, it is easy to see where the Seven Devils Campground fits into the overall picture. This is a great spot for setting up a rustic mountain top basecamp to adventure and the best views of the Seven Devils Mountain Peaks are found at this same spot!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
