Flickr album link: Spring Valley State Park Spring Valley State Park is a popular place to be during the warm weather seasons, simply because this destination spells out old fashioned rest and relaxation. The setting alone is far removed from the modern world and the terrain spells pure adventure. This park is located in the mountains east of Pioche, Nevada near the Utah Border. This region is fairly lush and green when compared to the lower elevations of the Great Basin Desert and the tall pines provide some shade. The mountains are captivating to see and the complex rock strata is a subject that is best explained by a well seasoned geologist. The vast deposits of pink and white volcanic tuff in the canyons and valleys are beautiful to see, while the Eagle Valley Reservoir certainly is inviting when the hot summer temperatures roll around. There are also old historic ranches from the late 1800s located onsite, which provide a learning experience for visitors of all ages. Fishing and light craft boating in the Eagle Valley Reservoir is the most popular activity and this angling spot is conveniently located across the road from a state park campground. The Horsethief Gulch Campground offers 37 developed campsites complete with a shade canopies, chargrills and picnic tables. Basic facilities, showers and drinking water are available, so as one can guess this campground appeals to those who intend to spend an entire vacation in this cozy place. The Ranch Campground is a second state park spot north of the reservoir and this location appeals to those who prefer primitive camping with views of the old historic sites in the grassy valley. Fishing is the mainstay attraction at Spring Valley State Park and the boat launch also serves as a picnic area with shade trees and recreational open space. A fish cleaning station is located here and free life jackets are always offered. Some people haul their bass boats way out this way, but most visitors prefer casting from the shoreline. Touring the road around the reservoir will reveal views of several freshwater springs percolating up from the depths of the man made lake. The far side of the lake is a wetlands area that attracts migrating birds, so be sure to pack a powerful lens for the venture. Spring Valley State Park definitely is a comfortable place to be and the location is remote enough to alleviate overcrowding, so be sure to chalk this destination high on the list!

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
