Strawberry Reservoir ~ Uinita National Forest

The Strawberry Reservoir is located in a unique high elevation region where the sagebrush meadows meet the mountain pine forests near Duchesne. Highway 40 runs right by this recreation area, so RV campers and trailer haulers can easily access this area. The panoramic views stretch out forever and there is plenty of room to roam around this big lake, which is like a sigh of relief for those who wish to escape from the big crowds in the nearby National Parks. This destination is also managed by the National Forest Service, so the outdoor entertainment venue is guaranteed to offer some old fashion traditional summertime fun in the sun!

Within the first five minutes upon arrival it is easy to see that extended stay camping is definitely the the top choice at Strawberry Reservoir. This comfortable spot simply spells out quality rest and relaxation all the way, so it is best to plan on just going with this classic mode. There are dispersed camping areas around the foothills that appeal to horseback riders and mountain bikers, while the Strawberry Lake developed campground boasts 295 campsites. A limited amount of RV hookups are available and there are 6 group campgrounds, which all adds up to this destination being capable of easily handling a high volume of visitors.

Lakeside camping and fishing for dinner is a classic R&R venue and this is what Strawberry Lake is most famous for. This lake is stocked with Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout and Kokanee Salmon, which are all gourmet items, so be sure to pack the fishing gear. Light craft boating is permitted and the launch ramps are well maintained. Fish cleaning stations are conveniently located by the campgrounds, which help to keep the wildlife scavengers under control. Strawberry Reservoir is also a premium birding destination and the resident ospreys are amazing to see. As can be seen in the photos, the ospreys are very adept at catching fresh fish and it is not uncommon for one of these big birds to catch two panfish during one sky dive. For all these reasons and much more, be sure to Strawberry Reservoir in mind when some plain old summertime rest and relaxation is much needed!
