Area 51 is a secret research installation that is infamous for being an alien technology rumor mill. Not long ago Area 51 officially never existed. The government recently let the cat out of the bag and announced that Area 51 is not merely a figment of imagination. This secretive facility has been an advanced aeronautic skunk works testing ground from the start way back in the 1950s. The testing facility at Groom Lake is one of many secret project bases that are located on the vast Nellis Air Force Base property. One of the other famous high security facilities on this property is the Nevada Test Site, which is where nuclear weapons testing continued for several decades after WWII. According to local native lore, there are secret underground bases in the southwest that aliens built thousands of years ago. Some say that many of these bases are still occupied by aliens from outer space and Area 51 is one of the original underground alien bases. Rumor has it that the US military and extraterrestrials formed an alliance at Area 51 and they have been in the flying saucer manufacturing business ever since. Scientists and security personnel that claimed to work at Area 51 in the past have leaked eye witness accounts of aliens working with humans at Groom Lake. Because of the mysterious activity surrounding Area 51, this part of the Great Basin Desert has the reputation of being one of the creepiest paranormal destinations on earth and even the mention of a UFO sighting can result in investigative surveillance. Touring the Extraterrestrial Highway through secret alien UFO base territory in central Nevada is a good way to get some fresh air and enjoy majestic views of the wide open spaces. It is best to drive a reliable car and top off the tank, because the towing charges way out in the middle of nowhere can be costly. The closest gas stations are in Alamo, Beatty or Tonopah, so fuel management is critical. Carrying a 2 day supply of water and nonperishable food is recommended if touring the long dirt side roads is on the agenda. This includes the long dirt roads that go to the border of the Groom Lake facility. There is nothing like a good tourist trap to break up the monotony when traveling long stretches of road. There are a few tourist traps to be found along the Extraterrestrial Highway that are worth checking out and they all have a secret alien base theme. As can be imagined, the top secret alien souvenirs are one of a kind and these items can be found nowhere else in the galaxy. For those who always wondered about alien cattle mutilations, the mystery may be unraveled at the E.T. Beef Jerky Stand that can be found on the east end of the Extraterrestrial Highway. This is open ranch country, so keeping an eye on the road is necessary for avoiding a cattle collision incident. Aliens from outer space are also aware of the cattle and maybe this is why so many UFOs have been spotted around these parts. It is easy to imagine that the aliens are marketing abducted cattle jerky as a side hustle while working at Area 51 and this definitely adds to the charm. Plenty of memorabilia and souvenirs are available at the Area 51 Alien Research Center, which is yet another attraction along the Extraterrestrial Highway. I purchased a bottle of Alien Honey for a good price while there and I met one of the owners, which actually happened to be a human being. The family that owns the Area 51 Alien Research Center also owns the Alien Tequila Company in Mexico. The glass tequila bottles are shaped like the head of an alien being and they do have collector value. A few miles east of Rachel, there is a dirt road that goes to the infamous black mailbox location out in the middle of nowhere. The black mailbox was made famous by eye witnesses that were detained while observing scheduled flying saucer test flights at Area 51 from this landmark spot at night. For those who are interested, the original black mailbox is long gone. There is a heavy steel mailbox for a desert ranch along the dirt road, which gets plastered with graffiti. This old observation point now draws paranormal enthusiasts worldwide. Finally after experiencing a mysterious lapse in time while cruising on the Extraterrestrial Highway, the signs for Rachel, Nevada soon appear. Rachel is a small town that is located next to Area 51. This is a place where many documented UFO sightings have occurred through the years and there are tales of aliens wandering into the bar from the neighboring secret base. This makes Rachel one of the all time greatest paranormal tourism destinations and it is a good place to take a break from the road to dine on some food that is out of this world. Because so many people travel to the Area 51 region with the hopes of spotting flying saucers and aliens, the town of Rachel has become a prime time secret base tourism destination. Many people say that aliens also travel to this specific part of the desert just to mingle with humans. The Little A’Le’Inn is a bar & grill gathering spot where both aliens and humans can feel right at home. This is a top destination for car clubs and motorcycle rallies. There are plenty of Area 51 collectibles and alien UFO souvenirs inside the gift shop. The Little A’Le’Inn T-Shirts are one of the most popular tourist mementos, since there is only one place to find this item on earth. Alien secret base tourism is a new craze, but getting too close to a secret base may cause a visitor to be listed as just another missing person. Venturing into “Dream Land” territory certainly will provide plenty to ponder over for a lifetime, even though the memories may have been instilled telepathically by alien beings during the long drive. Nevada secret base territory is a prime time paranormal tourism destination and the Extraterrestrial Highway is a scenic drive that belongs high on the list!

Thanks for helping me understand that many people have been visiting the town of Rachel to get close to Area 51 and spot flying saucers and aliens. Personally, I am interested in booking an Area 51 tour for my birthday next year, because I am fascinated with anything extraterrestrial. So I hope that I can book one months before my birth month to be sure that I get a spot for myself and my husband.

Thanks for your comment. My article focuses upon the Area 51 tourist traps. Access to the actual Area 51 is off limits to the public. There are organized group outings for UFO spotting outside of the secret base. There are also an equal amount of Area 51 tourism scams, so buyer beware.

New!
Destination West YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/@DestinationWestOrg *The Destination West website upgrading project is well underway. Unique YouTube slideshows are replacing the outdated Flickr photo galleries. The new videos feature modern graphics and alternative music instrumentals that enhance the viewing experience. Some articles are being condensed, while others are getting much needed edits. As everybody knows, the bulk of the original articles and photos were published on the fly during the Covid camping venture and there were limitations. Upgrading is the way to go and more articles will receive a makeover each week until this project is completed. After that, I will be able to gather new material. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
