The Zunino/Jiggs Recreation Area is located deep in sagebrush country between Elko, Nevada and the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge, so as can be imagined, this is a good place to be during the autumn migration season. This recreation area features a large irrigation reservoir and lush wetland marshes, so this is an optimal Great Basin Desert birding destination. The fishing is good in this big pond too and the boat launch is conveniently located by the paved highway. The campground is situated by the paved road too, which fortunately sees very little traffic on any given day. The roadside campground features a picnic tables, fire pits and basic facilities, while those who are self sustainable will find several primitive campsites closer to the water. This lesser known BLM destination barely appears on a map, so be sure to keep the Zunino/Jiggs Recreation Area in mind when planning a Ruby Valley adventure!
